UGC NET 2018 December: Dates, Notification & Syllabus

UGC NET - National Eligibility Test is conducted twice in a year for the selection of deserving candidates for the posts of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). As per a recent announcement by the HRD Ministry, the examination will now be conducted by the newly formed National Testing Agency (NTA). In fact, UGC NET 2018 December session would be the first exam of the agency. Till now, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been conducting the examination. The UGC NET 2018 July Session examination conducted on 8th July was the last exam conducted by CBSE.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Dates:

UGC NET December 2018 registration process has been started from 1st September 2018 and will continue till 30th September 2018. The important dates for UGC NET 2018 are as follows:

Note: The Test will be Conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) Mode only



Important Schedule:

  • Registration Started: 1st September 2018
  • Last Date For Apply: 30th September 2018
  • Last Date For Application Fee Submission: 1st October 2018
  • Exam Date: Between 18th December to 22nd December 2018

UGC NET 2018 Online Application:

The Online Application form for UGC NET Dec 2018 will be available from 01-09-2018 to 30-09-2018 on the www.ntanet.nic.in website.



The process of online application will consist of four steps. Aspirants should keep in mind the below:

  • The authority will provide candidates a chance to correct their application.
  • The size of photograph must be between 10KB to 100KB and signature size should be between 4KB to 30KB.
  • The dimension should be 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height) for photograph and 3.5 cm (width) x 1.5 cm (height) for signature.
  • Do not send the printout of the confirmation page to the authority office.


UGC NET Application Fee:

The application fee of UGC NET 2018 varies category-wise. Application fee, once paid, is not refundable or transferable under any circumstances. Fee details are as follows:

  • General-Rs.800/-
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC)-(NCL)*: RS.400/-
  • SC/ST/PwD/ Transgender- Rs.200/-


UGC NET 2018 Eligibility:

Candidates must apply after reading the eligibility criteria to appear in the UGC NET 2018 exam,Here are the broad pointers:

Candidates who are pursuing their master’s degree equivalent courses or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying master’s degree (Final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examination have been delayed can appear in the UGC NET Dec 2018 Examination.

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/ institutions recognized by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications,Electronic Science etc.are eligible for this Test. 

For Reserved Category: The Other Backward Classes(OBC) belonging to non creamy layer/Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PwD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this test.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern:

Pattern: The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be attempted with a break of 30 minutes between them.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Age Criteria:

For Junior Research Fellowship:

Age Limit: The maximum age limit is 30 years as on 1st December 2018.
Relaxation: 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, transgender and PwD category candidates. Relaxation will also be given to the candidates having research experience. Candidates possessing LL.M. degree will be eligible for 3 years relaxation in age.

There is no age limit for applying for Assistant Professor.

For Assistant Professor:

Age Limit: No prescribed upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET 2018 Syllabus:

The syllabus of National Eligibility Test (NET) is different for different subjects. The subjects included in NET is more than 100. Candidates should also prepare from the syllabus of their qualifying examination. Candidates must prepare as per the syllabus prescribed by the NTA.
